Math Division Meeting

10:00 AM Math Division Conference Room SUW 270

  1. Approval of Minutes
    • Norris Harvey approved, Angelia Reynolds seconded
  2. From Academic Council - Gerry Wilson
    • Reports were given by the following Academic Council Subcommittees:
      • Program Review
      • Structure of Divisions
      • Term of Division Chairs
      • Alternative Scheduling
  3. Catalog Changes were given by the following:
    • Mathematics
    • Public Safety
    • Social Sciences
    • Visual and Performing Arts
  4. FSU luncheon
    • Dean Burbank reported via Gerry Wilson that ‘a good time was had by all’ and that he would answer questions upon his return
  5. Gerry Wilson announced that personalized retirement info. is available in Human Resources
  6. Deanna Petersen started a discussion on course length
    • The division discussed possible answers to complaints that courses 'move too fast'
    • The division discussed the procurement of funds in order to have weekly 'recitation sessions'
      • Possibly use office hours to run these sessions
    • The Trig and Pre-Calc Algebra instructors will meet to discuss and report back to the division
  7. Reports from committees:
    • Faculty Council (Angelia Reynolds)
      • The college calendar was approved
      • Academic rank, promotion and tenure is still being researched
    • Tri College (Deanna Petersen)
      • Students brought up discussion of volunteering to build a chapel on campus
      • Fall carnival was discussed
      • An extension of the drop-add period was discussed
      • Designated smoking areas were discussed
    • E-learning (Sharon Hudson)
      • Distance learning fees and their subsequent use was discussed
      • Compensation for teaching, developing, DVD recording and study guide authoring for distance education courses was discussed
    • Advising (Sharon Hudson)
      • A mission statement for this committee is being worked on
        • Sharon Hudson requested ideas from the division
    • Natural Sciences Luncheon (Sharon Hudson)
      • Sharon Hudson passed around a sign-up sheet
    • International Studies (Deanna Petersen)
      • This committee has been researching student/professor exchange programs
    • Campus Works (Gerry Wilson)
      • There is an online questionnaire that needs to be filled out
