Math Division Meeting

10:00 AM Room SUW 267

  1. Approval of Minutes
    • Dean Burbank approved, Angelia Reynolds seconded
  2. Herman Daniels and Kim Krutcheck demonstrated a new presentation devise that consist of a wireless tablet that connects to the smart station PC and projects on the room’s screen
  3. Report from Academic Council
    • E-Learning discussion
      • Course design process and the process for project approval were approved
      • Course design and delivery compensation matrix will be addressed in January
    • Melissa Lavender covered more of the CCSSE
    • Cheryl Flax-Hyman encouraged the faculty to attend the assessment meeting in January
      • Gerry Wilson urged the math faculty to attend this meeting
  4. Jennifer Babya is looking for help setting up a course that is designed to assist students that need to take the CLAST for a second time
    • This course will be required before the students attempt the CLAST a second time
      • The course will consist of instructor videos and sample tests
    • The division discussed the idea and decided that more time was needed for design/method
      • Leo Lusk will meet with Jennifer and discuss logistics
  5. The division discussed the TI-84 emulation software
  6. Terms from the CCSSE report that the division had questioned were defined
  7. Announcements from Gerry Wison:
    • advising time may be moved to 6:30 PM
    • Judy Bailey will not be returning for spring semester and her courses need to be covered
  8. Committees:
    • Faculty Council (Lloyd Harris)
      • Need a chair elect and at large member
      • Meetings will be Fridays from 1-4
      • HR is researching what will happen with sick-leave if OPD time is done away with
      • VP search was discussed
    • FACC
      • Developmental studies meeting
        • More colleges are offering developmental courses bundled together in minimesters
          • Keeps the students engaged, there is less down time for the students to forget what they’ve learned
