Math Division Meeting

  1. Approval of Minutes
    • Dean Burbank approved, Angelia Reynolds seconded
  2. From Academic Council and PLT
    • Budget Cuts
      • Gerry Wilson described the different budget cuts taking place
      • Methods of conserving energy/office supplies were discussed
        • Shut down PCs at night
        • Turn off lights not in use
        • No space heaters
        • Scan instead of copy whenever possible
          • More quizzes on Angel
          • Post Syllabi on Angel instead of handing out to all students
      • Equipment budgets and new initiatives will not be cut
      • There will be no printed catalog for next year
    • There will be an Academic and Faculty council meeting concerning CCSSE in the PDC
    • FTE is up 10.2% overall, 7.6% for math
    • Sharon Todd reported on registration and Melissa Lavender reported on advising and counseling
  3. The division continued its discussion of money saving possibilities
  4. Michael Brinegar reported on the SACS conference in New Orleans
    • Accreditation assessment process
      • Michael passed around the SACS accreditation checklists
      • Accreditation committees will start meeting and getting together a ‘quality enhancement plan’ (QEP), to send to SACS for review
    • Academic Program Approval
  5. Lloyd Harris announced that in keeping with the division ‘strategic plan’, it is time to assess MAT0024
    • Lloyd Harris and Michael Brinegar will assist the course manager (Patrice Adams) in the assessment process
  6. Leo Lusk reported briefly on his minimester students vs. his standard class students
    • Minimester MGF 1106 students seem to be more on task than regular MGF 1106 students
    • Receiving positive feedback from the minimester 1106 students
  7. Committee Reports:
    • Faculty Hiring Committee (Michael Brinegar) - there are now 15 applications to consider for the hiring of a new faculty member
    • Faculty Council (Terri Bedford) -
      • Foundation Dinner 2/8
      • Strategic Planning focus groups upcoming
      • New website will be revealed 3/1
      • Dean Burbank presented testing center information from Valencia
      • Patrick Brennan discussed recording lectures and distributing via ITunes
    • Tri-College (Deanna Petersen)
      • Budget cuts were discussed
      • Would like to host a vice presidential debate on campus
