Sophie’s Breakthrough

In the early 1820’s Sophie Germain adopted a new strategy and described to the great German mathematician Karl Friedrich Gauss a so-called general approach to the problem.

Instead of trying to prove particular cases she set about describing solutions for many cases all at once.
